Self Portraits

I just recently discovered an amazing feature of the 40mm, XS, f2.8 lens that came with my Pentax K-01 camera.  Although not a macro, it is capable of focusing (accurately with the AF) down to 40cm or 15.74”. Among other things this means that it is perhaps one of the few lenses that can be easily used for self-portraits with the camera simply held at arm’s length. That’s right, no timers, no mirrors, and no helpers, just you and the camera!

There is one problem with using this lens in this manner. It’s a 40mm focal length or 60mm equivalent in 35mm film (or full frame) jargon so the angle of view will only allow part of the face unless you have really long arms or a very small face. I clearly have neither.

On the positive side, the resolution is good enough to see the dust specs on my glasses!
