Here
is a great shot of the Ascension Parish Courthouse in Donaldsonville, Ian took
using the Holga loaded with Kodak Portra 400 film. The Portra is responsible
for the vivid blue sky and overall great color rendition. The careful composition
showing near perfect balance & symmetry is Ian. The classic vignette effect
at the corners and slightly out of focus dreamy look is pure Holga.
By
contrast, below is a shot of a similar composition which I took using the
Pentax ZX-30 loaded with Velvia 100 at the same time the one above was being
taken.
The
color saturation is just as good although the Fuji is a bit warmer, but there
is no distortion at all and this photo is so sharp you can tell the time on the
clock, see individual bricks and almost read the historical marker sign in
front.
So
which one is the better photo? Neither, and both! Here we have two entirely
different “takes” on the same iconic image. Your preference for either will be
based on your mood or your purpose (if indeed there is one) in taking the picture.
